Chatham-Kent (CK) is reminding residents that the water supply remains safe.
The advisory comes after a cleanup took place in the Thames River on Saturday.
The cleanup was needed after a fire broke out at the Greenfield Global ethanol plant.
"Precautionary measures were taken to protect the wastewater system while the emergency response was underway, and the potable water supply was never compromised," said General Manager of the CK Public Utilities Commission Darren Galbraith.
CK noted that the wastewater system didn't experience any adverse effects from the fire, despite the CK water treatment plant being close to the Thames River.
"Residents do not need to take any action regarding municipal drinking water because of the incident," the municipality added.
Greenfield Global is working with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) to continue cleaning up the river.
CK asks anyone who has seen environmental concerns to reach out to MECP.
