Bruce Power bus tours are back

Bruce County residents and tourists once again have a chance to get a closer look at Bruce Power.

Starting Monday, the nuclear power generator is again offering its annual summer site bus tours.

Launching from the Bruce Power Visitors' Centre, the one-hour narrated tour takes people around the 2,100-acre site in Tiverton. Riders will view an introductory video before exploring the areas around Bruce A and B, Douglas Point, Hydro One’s switchyards, and Ontario Power Generation’s Nuclear Sustainability Services facility.

Last year, roughly 6,300 people took the tour, prompting Bruce Power to extend this year's tour season through October 8. The buses will run once daily Monday to Friday throughout June, seven days a week in July and August, and twice a week in September into October.

“As we continue to successfully refurbish our units through the major component replacement project and continue to explore the opportunity of building Bruce C, the future of the nuclear industry in Ontario is bright," said Dwight Irwin, manager of community and external affairs at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre. "Our bus tour program is a great opportunity for see how we’re creating jobs across the province and powering the future.”

Bruce Power is the only Canadian nuclear station to offer such an up-close look at its facilities.

Anyone interested in taking the bus tour is advised to pre-register at www.brucepower.com/bustours or call the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre at 519-361-7777.
