The Township of Georgian Bluffs is opening local cooling centres to help those who need to beat the heat during an intense heat wave.
Environment Canada has most of southern Ontario under an Orange-level heat warning, with temperatures well into the 30s for most of the week.
As a response to the stifling heat, the Shallow Lake Community Centre will be open as a designated cooling centre during operating hours. The centre offers a comfortable, air-conditioned space where residents can take a break from the heat.
Council chambers at the Township Administration Office will also be available to the public for cooling during business hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The council chambers will be closed on Canada Day.
Township staff are reminding everyone to drink plenty of water, avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, wear lightweight clothing, and check in on neighbours and loved ones who may be at risk.
