Brightshores Health System is reassuring that the safety of its patients, staff, and volunteers is its highest priority after an incident at its Markdale hospital.
Few details have been released, but the statement on Wednesday said that on November 2, Grey Bruce OPP responded to an incident that involved a patient at the hospital becoming aggressive while in the emergency department.
"We are grateful for the professionalism, judgment and quick actions demonstrated by our team in what was a challenging and unpredictable situation," the released statement from Brightshores said. "The team followed established procedures and worked together to help protect patients, visitors and one another while emergency responders mobilized."
Other patients, visitors and family witnessed the incident, and Brightshores expressed regret for those who had to witness the situation.
Any violence or aggressive behaviour towards hospital staff and others is unacceptable, Brightshores added. The organization also noted that support is being provided to staff members, and a comprehensive review of safe rooms across the organization is also underway.
