Windsor doctor honours late wife with donation to cancer care

A Windsor doctor and his family fulfilled his late wife's wish by donating $100,000 to local cancer care.

Dr. David Boyer donated $50,000 to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation and $50,000 to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation to improve patient care and provide educational opportunities to oncology staff.

"Her donation specifically was designed to try and make the lives of the nursing staff easier," said Dr. Boyer.

When the foundations approached staff with the request, they helped decide to purchase vein finders and fund staff wellness initiatives and education opportunities.

"They're such a compassionate group that when we reached out to them they were like, 'what is better for the patients is what's better for us?' Though there are a few pieces that will benefit the staff they were really looking out for the patients and what will make their care journey even better," said Cristina Naccarato, Executive Director of the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Boyer said it is a privilege to fulfil his wife's wishes like this.

"It's very important for me that somehow that would enhance the nurses' ability to care for patients and make their care of patients somehow easier in their day and hopefully improve the care of patients in the hospital," said Dr. Boyer.

Robin Boyer passed away from cancer in July 2025. Dr. Boyer described her as a very caring individual who was anxious to give back to the staff for their compassionate care.
