Man charged in stolen vehicle investigation

Sarnia police have recovered a stolen vehicle on London Road.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, November 28, a white Jeep was allegedly stolen from a residence.

Not long after, at 8:02 p.m., a patrol officer saw the stolen vehicle on London Line east of Modeland Road.

The vehicle was stopped at a business, and additional units were called in. The vehicle then went eastbound and, after passing Brigden Road, suddenly pulled to the shoulder and stopped.

The officer then activated his emergency lights and positioned his police vehicle in front, and as the officer exited, the Jeep allegedly accelerated forward, ramming the passenger side.

The suspect continued to go forward until ending up on the grass area past the gravel shoulder.

The vehicle drove through the ditch, ran over a mailbox, and fled at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue it for public safety reasons at that time.

That same night, at 12:50 am, officers located the Jeep abandoned in the 1700 block of London Line.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of the suspect’s wallet and photo ID on the passenger seat.

On Saturday, November 29, police found the suspect and placed him under arrest.

A 21-year-old man is facing several charges, including breach of probation.
