The nuSarnia Foundation is seeking out businesses that could benefit from having a bike rack installed at their workplace.
The group partnered with the Bluewater Cycling Organization and local manufacturer Active Playground Equipment to have custom bike racks fabricated.
Executive Director Tristan Bassett said they've started with 10 bike racks.
"We received grant funding in order for us to do so, and as we continue to apply and receive grant funding, our hope is that we'll continue to create more and more of these and have more opportunities to get them installed out into the community," Bassett said.
She said there is certainly a need.
"We've noticed that bike racks and bike storage really fill a critical gap that's currently missing in our active transportation infrastructure," said Bassett. "We're getting some really amazing new multi-use paths, the new Howard Watson Trail is a really great example of some exciting new infrastructure that's really encouraging more people to get out."
Bassett said nuSarnia matched grant funding Bluewater Cycling received, totaling $20,000 for the project.
"One thing that we commonly hear as a barrier, is that once I get to my destination there's no where to put my bike or no where to safely store my bike," Bassett said. "So, we're really eager to help fill that gap for the community."
She encourages anyone interested in having a bike rack for their customers, clients, or staff to reach out.
"We do have a few that are still available within this list," Bassett said. "So, any businesses, community groups, property managers... any type of organization interested in having a bike rack installed at their location, can reach out to me. My email is tristan@nusarnia.org."
