CANstruction to feature popular toys in support of the Inn

Local schools, businesses and community groups are being encouraged to play with their food.

The 13th annual Inn of the Good Shepherd CANstruction fundraiser will see 10 teams building stuctures out of canned and boxed food at Lambton Mall.

Inn Executive Director Jack Christine said he's especially excited since this is his very first CANstruction.

"I'm very nervous," said Christine. "I'm really looking forward to my first one, it's a great event."

Last year CANstruction helped raise $26,000 dollars and over 31,000 pounds of food for the Inn's food bank.

"It's a great food raiser and a great fundraiser," said Christine. "As you know, demand is increasing on a monthly basis for a food services and our food banks."

He said the theme this year is Toys, and teams will literally be playing with their food.

The creative displays will be assembled beginning at  9 a.m. Saturday, March 7 and awards will be handed out on Sunday, March 8 at 1 p.m. in the food court.

Christine said entries will be judged on nine categories.

"We've got Best Meal, which is basically judged on the best meals on the materials that are used, Most Cans Used, Best Use of Theme, Rookie Team of the Year, Judge's Favourite and most importantly People's Choice, " he said.

Voting for the People's Choice award is open until March 23. The structure that raises the most money wins.

Also, during March Break kids able to find the Inn's mascot tINNy hiding in three of the structure can submit their answers for a chance to win a prize.
