Countdown is on for fall municipal election

Municipal election nominations open on Friday, May 1.

In Sarnia, nominations can be filed with the clerk at city hall weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There are nine elected members on city council, the mayor, four city council members and four city/Lambton County council members.

Those interested in seeking a seat on council must be over the age of 18, a Canadian citizen and reside or own property in the municipality they're running in.

The fee to file a nomination is $200 to run for head of council and $100 for all other positions.

For those considering running in Sarnia, a link to the candidate information session can be found on the city's website, along with information on election signs.

Nominations close on August 21 and voters will cast their ballots on Monday, October 26.

In February, Sarnia City Council approved a hybrid voting model for the election, with both paper ballots and online voting available.
