David Musyj not returning to Windsor Regional Hospital

The president and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital will remain in London.

The hospital announced on Wednesday afternoon that David Musyj, who had been seconded to the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), has told the WRH board that he will stay with the London job permanently.

"On behalf of the board, I want to give a sincere thanks to David for his many years of dedication to our hospital, our patients, and our community at large," said WRH Board Chair Ian McLeod. "We are fortunate to know that David will continue to be a strong advocate for our new hospital project and will continue to be involved in discussions regarding this generational project as it moves towards becoming a reality."

Musyj took over LHSC over a year ago when that hospital system began working through a series of financial and operational issues. Following a consultation with the Ontario Ministry of Health, Musyj will continue guiding LHSC's recovery.

"As you know, my Windsor team is close to my heart," said Musyj in a statement. "I want to sincerely thank the Board, leadership team, staff at Windsor Regional Hospital, and Windsor-Essex residents for their unwavering support throughout my career. I have had an exceptional journey at WRH and will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that Windsor's new hospital becomes a reality."

WRH Chief Nursing Executive and Acting President and CEO Karen Riddell will continue in those roles through March 31, 2026, her preplanned retirement date.

McLeod assured the hospital community that the operation has a strong foundation and work on the new acute care hospital will not be affected.

"We know that change often brings about uncertainty, and sometimes anxiety. Rest assured that your Board of Directors remains confident in the future of WRH," said McLeod. "Due to the exemplary leadership of both Karen and David, WRH is on solid footing for years to come, in the present and in leading up to the exciting construction of our new state-of-the-art acute care hospital, which will open its doors to its first patients just a few years from now."

Separate recruiting processes to name both Musyj and Riddell's successors will launch later this summer.
