Windsor police arrest three alleged impaired drivers within one hour

Windsor patrol officers were busy early Wednesday, arresting at least three people for suspected impaired driving within 45 minutes.

All three drivers were charged with impaired driving. Each also either failed a chemical breath test or refused to take one.

The first call was just before midnight on Tuesday. A Canada Border Services Agency officer spotted signs of impairment from a woman trying to enter Canada. The CBSA called Windsor police, and the 46-year-old driver was arrested.

The second call was logged at about the same time on Central Avenue, when an officer saw a pickup truck approaching, stopping suddenly, then backing into a ditch. The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol and slurred speech from the 45-year-old driver, who was taken into custody.

The third and final call came about ten minutes after, in a parking lot on Ottawa Street near Parent Avenue. The 64-year-old driver appeared unsteady and disoriented, and also slurred his words.

The charges have not been proven in court.
