Tecumseh Corn and Music Festival celebrates 49 years

The Tecumseh Corn and Music Festival is about to kick off its 49th year on Friday, August 22, and it's third consecutive year at McAuliffe Park.

The Opening Ceremonies are at 5 p.m. with remarks from Town of Tecumseh officials, members of the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach, and delegates from Tecumseh, Michigan, who haven't been to the festival in almost a decade.

"Admission to the fairgrounds is free, but buy your tickets early to enjoy our live acts in the entertainment tent," said Vice President of the Optimist Club of St. Clair, Melissa Coulbeck.

Once again, festival goers can expect carnival rides, vendors, a children's play area, corn-eating contests, and the return of the Miss Tecumseh Pageant.

Evening concerts will feature live performances by Kelsi Mayne, Simply Queen, MELO, Gnome Chimpski, and DJ Fly With Rye inside the entertainment tent. Tickets are available online.

"The Tecumseh Corn and Music Festival has always been important to our town," said Councillor James Dorner. "This year is extra special as we celebrate with our community, and our sister city of Tecumseh, Michigan. In times of tension between our countries, it's great to see an event like the Corn Fest bring us together."

Funds raised by the festival support local charities and community projects.
