Pair of Essex County drivers arrested for impaired driving

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested at least two people for alleged impaired driving over Thanksgiving weekend.

One was reported in Lakeshore and the other in Tecumseh.

The first was at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. Patrol officers stopped a vehicle on Lanoue Street in Tecumseh.

A 22-year-old Tecumseh man was arrested and charged with impaired driving, driving with excessive blood-alcohol, driving with an open container of liquor, and being a novice driver with a blood-alcohol level over zero.

The second incident took place shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Monday on Caille Street in Lakeshore.

Police spotted a golf cart being driven on the road and stopped the operator, who showed signs of impairment.

A 48-year-old Lakeshore man has been charged with driving with excessive blood-alcohol, unlawful driving of an off-road vehicle on a highway, driving an off-road vehicle without a number plate, refusal to surrender permit for an off-road vehicle, and driving an off-road vehicle without insurance.

Both vehicles were impounded for seven days, and the drivers' licences were suspended for 90 days.

The charges have not been proven in court. Both have court appearances scheduled for later this month in Windsor.
