Fundraiser underway for family displaced in Harrow house fire

A fundraiser has been set up for an Essex family burned out of their home two weeks ago.

Essex Fire and Rescue responded to the home in the early morning hours of November 13, on Smith Road between the 4th and 5th Concession Roads.

The home was destroyed, and a vehicle parked adjacent to it was severely damaged.

The Scurk family was able to get out, but a dog perished in the blaze. The cause was undetermined.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Scurk family cover living essentials.

"Since the fire, our family has had to move between three different temporary living locations while we wait for insurance to finally kick in," read the webpage announcing the fundraiser. "It’s been incredibly stressful trying to keep things stable for the kids while juggling unexpected expenses and the uncertainty of what comes next. Some days feel heavier than others, but we’re holding onto hope and taking things one step at a time."

The fundraising goal is $5,500. As of Friday night, $5,145 was raised.
