Freezing rain, ice pellets, snow expected Friday

Special weather statements have been issued for much of Southern Ontario heading into the weekend.

Environment Canada is forecasting mixed precipitation on Friday, from freezing rain in the southernmost part of the province to significant snow further north.

No matter what's falling from the sky, the weather agency advises that travel could be difficult, adding that motorists should be extra cautious on the roads or postpone travel while the statements are in effect.

Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton could see two to 10 millimetres of freezing rain before temperatures rise above freezing and it switches over to rain.

Huron, Perth, and Southern Bruce and Grey Counties could see a mix of snow, freezing rain, and ice pellets, with five to 10 centimetres of snow accumulating in some areas.

Residents of Northern Bruce and Grey Counties can expect up to 10 centimetres of snowfall as a low-pressure system passes through the area.

The statements have been issued for Friday morning and are expected to last into the evening.
