Lakeshore employees recognized for holiday outreach

The Municipality of Lakeshore has taken time during the holidays to recognize employees who have gone the extra mile by helping their neighbours.

Staff members have been busy during December, taking part in a series of fundraising initiatives for those less fortunate.

"It is great to see our staff go above and beyond to support local fundraisers and residents in need," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "These initiatives are a reminder that while staff serve the municipality as part of their regular duties, they are often volunteers and engaged citizens who care about helping others."

The Municipality's social committee oversaw the annual Holiday Help Out, with staff donating money to purchase gift cards, toys, and more. The campaign raised almost $1,400, including donations from both the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Firefighters were also busy with the following initiatives.

  • The Belle River-Rochester and Essex-Tecumseh Goodfellows newspaper campaigns in late November

  • Sparky’s Toy Drive collected over $9,000 worth of toys and monetary donations that will go to 35 local families.

  • In December, a group of firefighters and their family members helped give soup to those in need at the Soup Shack in Windsor.

  • Firefighters also helped pack groceries at the Amy Croft Drive Sobey’s. The campaign has already raised $5,400, including a matching donation from the grocer.

"On behalf of Council and our residents, I would like to thank all of them for their commitment to our communities," said Bailey.
