Annual Windsor Wild Winter Classic starts Friday

A total of 54 female hockey teams are expected to take part in this year's Annual Windsor Wild Winter Classic at the WFCU Centre and Forest Glade Arena.

The tournament gets underway on Friday with the first matchup at 10 a.m.

Teams from across Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana are gearing up for three days of high-energy competition and sportsmanship.

"This tournament is all about providing female athletes access to this incredible game," said Executive Vice President of the Sun Parlour Female Hockey Association, Rebecca Reaume. "It remains a community staple that fosters a love for the sport while promoting player development within an environment of respect, pride, and empowerment."

There's a skills competition at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the WFCU Corporal Grenon Rink. Division championship games are set for Sunday afternoon, following round-robin play on Saturday, and the quarter- and semifinals on Sunday morning.

There will also be competitions in events for fastest skater and shot accuracy.
