Tecumseh and Essex declare Significant Weather Events

The Town of Essex and Town of Tecumseh have declared a Significant Weather Event due to heavy snow accumulation, blowing snow, and cold temperatures.

The towns are encouraging residents to park vehicles off the street, clear driveways and sidewalks onto lawns instead of the road, and remove decorative items positioned near sidewalks and curbs.

In the Town of Tecumseh, property owners are required to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks in front of commercial buildings within four hours of a snowfall or ice formation, and from sidewalks in front of residential buildings within 12 hours of a snowfall.

“As a community, we must all come together to ensure safe road conditions during this significant weather event,” said Sherry Bondy, Mayor of the Town of Essex. “The expected snowfall will create challenges, but with cooperation from residents, we can minimize disruptions. I urge everyone to follow the guidelines provided, stay informed, and be cautious when traveling.”

The town advises road users should expect delays. Snow clearing operations are ongoing.

“The declaration of a Significant Weather Event is essential due to the expected heavy snowfall and high potential for icy conditions. Residents can support our efforts by parking off the streets when possible and following the Town’s snow removal guidelines," said Norman Nussio, Manager of Operations and Drainage.

Tecumseh Transit users are advised there may be weather related delays over the next couple of days.

The declaration will be cancelled as soon as roadways are deemed safe.
