The UHC- Hub of Opportunities has partnered with ONRx, a Windsor-based app, to help their clients gain access to healthcare.
The virtual healthcare model links patients to Ontario primary care providers and specialists through a Ministry of Health-verified mobile application.
CEO of the UHC June Muir, indicated so many of their clients are newcomers to the city and do not have a family doctor.
"We know when we're not feeling well, it's hard for us to come to work, so imagine people that have no access to a family physician how they feel. Now they're able to get on a virtual platform and get that help that they need," said Muir.
ONRx platform allows people to select times that work for them and connect with service providers. Those service providers can book follow-ups or prescribe medication.
The app can be accessed anywhere, but through the partnership with UHC, people can receive training or language support to access the platform.
"Our initiative is to provide care to people who are newcomers, for people who are clients, in between jobs, people who are looking to go back to work. Keep them healthy, keep them job-ready so when there are opportunties to join the workforce, they are ready," said Rakesh Naidu, CEO of ONHealth Alliance Inc.
The platform also stores a patient's health history so everything is available for the health care providers.
"Our intention is to make sure that they get care in time, that's the most important thing. Because care delayed is care denied, we know that, and sometimes when people are waiting for a long time, their conditions worsen so much that they have to use the services of the emergency department," said Naidu.
