An American man has been fined $1,700 for several fishing violations that took place in May 2025.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources reported that on May 26, a conservation officer was on marine patrol on Lake Erie off the shore of Amherstburg, when they spotted the man in a boat using five fishing lines, three more than allowed.
When the officer spoke to the man, they determined that he had no valid fishing licence. The man was also in possession of twelve walleye.
The case was heard by Justice of the Peace Maureen Ryan-Brode at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor in October. The decision was made public on Friday.
The Belleville, Michigan man has pleaded guilty to fishing without a licence and fishing with more lines than permitted.
In addition to the fine, his walleye and fishing gear were forfeited. He is barred from having an Ontario fishing licence and from fishing in Ontario for one year.
