The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society (WECHS) is hoping that the person who abandoned an injured dog near its headquarters will come forward.
In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, the humane society reported that a small dog was spotted shivering outside its building on Provincial Road in Windsor earlier that morning.
The animal had a leg wrapped in bandages and appeared to be frightened. The WECHS confirmed that the dog's leg was broken.
"It is suspected that she suffered this trauma within the last one or two weeks, and we are asking for your help to identify her," read the Facebook post. "Sadly, abandonments like this are something we see far too often. No animal deserves to be left alone and afraid."
The WECHS stated that it understands that pet owners who can no longer care for their animals may need to surrender them, but it is urging that the process be done with care and humanity.
"If you need to surrender your pet but are worried about the fee, please talk to us. Our team will work with you to find a solution," read the Facebook post. "What matters most is making sure your pet is safe and that we have the information needed to give them the care, treatment, and support they deserve."
Anyone with information regarding the dog's identity, or that of its owner, should contact Inspector Bergeron of Animal Welfare Services at (519) 562-8249.
