Leamington posts wastewater master plan for resident review

The Municipality of Leamington's review of its wastewater infrastructure makes eight recommendations to ensure the growing needs of the community over the next 20 years.

They include a new outfall pump station and gravity sewer on the east side of the Selkirk Drain, expansion of the existing water treatment plant, and increasing the capacity of inlet pumps.

It also recommends reconfiguring the existing offline storage, expanding the offline storage basin, chemically enhanced primary treatment, and partial industrial treatment.

The Municipal Class Environmental Assessment will guide how Leamington delivers wastewater treatment services, focusing on cost-effective, environmentally sustainable solutions that reflect the values and priorities of its residents.

A copy of the master plan is available now on Leamington's municipal webpage for residents to review.

If no issues or concerns are raised by April 21, the plan will be considered to have met the requirements of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment. At that point, the project can proceed with the design, tender, and construction phase.

Residents can provide comments to the Manager of Environmental Services, Shannon Belleau, at sbelleau@leamington.ca, or Paul Adams, an environmental planner at AECOM Canada Ltd, at Paul.adams2@aecom.com.
