OPP launches 'Stay Focused' campaign

The OPP's annual "Stay Focused" campaign is underway, running to April 3.

The focus of the campaign is to reduce death and injuries across Ontario due to distracted driving.

Drivers can expect increased enforcement as officers will be taking a "zero-tolerance" approach when it comes to distracted driving offences.

Police said that, in 2025, distracted driving lead to 22 deaths on OPP-patrolled roads across the province. So far in 2026, it's lead to five deaths.

Distracted driving could include checking your phone, adjusting your GPS, eating or drinking, and tending to pets and children while behind the wheel.

There are big penalties behind distracted driving including fines, demerit points and even license suspension.

"The OPP is urging drivers of all ages to make safe choices behind the wheel and is encouraging passengers to speak up when they see unsafe driving behaviours. Taking a stand against distracted driving can save lives." said Staff Sergeant Julie McLeod, West Region OPP Traffic and Marine Services.
