Nominees for the 19th annual Windsor Essex Sports Person of the Year Awards include Windsor Spitfires Captain Liam Greentree and Victoria Walsh of the St. Clair College Women's Soccer team.
The nominees for the awards were announced at a breakfast Tuesday morning.
Organizers also announced the awards for the male and female soccer player of the year will be renamed The Sacho Cirovski award.
Cirovski grew up in Windsor and has been the head coach of the University of Maryland soccer team since 1993 and has won three national collegiate titles with the team.
This year's WESPY awards will be held on April 21 at the Caboto Club. Tickets are on sale now.
The guest speaker at the award show is former professional footballer Alessandro Del Piero.
"The guest speakers for the WESPYs have represented a lot of different sports but never soccer. With the World Cup coming to Canada, Mexico and the US this summer, what did the committee do? They went out and got one of the world's best players, best known players to be this year's guest speaker," said Keith Chinnery, with the WESPYs.
