Victoria Day weekend a busy one for Essex OPP

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County expected to be busy over the long May weekend, and they were.

Within 36 hours, officers arrested three people on suspicion of impaired driving.

The first was on Friday afternoon at about 1:30. Traffic officers responded to a complaint about erratic driving on County Road 20 in Essex.

A 38-year-old Kingsville man was arrested and charged with impaired driving, driving with excessive blood-alcohol concentration, driving with an open container, dangerous driving, possessing more than one licence, and having an obstructed windshield.

The second was shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, also in Essex. Police responded to a crash on Highway 3 near County Road 8.

A 31-year-old LaSalle resident is charged with impaired driving, driving with excessive blood-alcohol, and dangerous driving.

The third was soon after 8 p.m. on Saturday in Leamington. OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on Talbot Street East near Wigle Avenue.

A 37-year-old Leamington man is charged with impaired driving, driving with excessive blood-alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol level above zero as a novice operator, driving with an open container, failure to apply for ownership, driving with no insurance, and use of an unauthorized vehicle plate.

All three drivers have had their licences suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

All three will have a chance to defend themselves against the charges in a Windsor court on June 24.
