Windsor Police are asking cyclists to record their bike's serial number and register it through the bicycle registry.
As the temperature rises, police say so does the risk of having your bike stolen.
Windsor Police received 279 reports last year about stolen bicycles, and more than 63 per cent of those thefts were between June and September. Already this month, police have had 21 reports.
You can register your bike online.
Police recommend cyclists take clear photos of their bike's serial number and store it with the receipt or ownership records.
If you buy a used bike, they suggest checking the Canadian Police Information Centre public database to see if it's been reported stolen.
They also recommend a strong U-lock to keep it secure. U-locks are harder to defeat than a cable lock.
