Windsor crime falls over first half of 2026

Windsor police say crime rates are trending in the right direction for the first six months of the year.

Crime statistics for June, as well as the first half of 2026, were released Tuesday morning.

In Windsor and Amherstburg, property crime was down 4.4 per cent year-to-date, compared to the first six months of 2025.

Crimes against property include arson, fraud, break-and-enter, theft, and mischief.

For June alone, police reported a 2.6 per cent decline in property crime complaints from June 2025.

There were 1,011 incidents filed with the police in June, and, for 2026 thus far, there have been 4,782.

Personal crime reports are also down for the first half of the year, by 4.2 per cent.

Offences that fall under this category include homicide, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and criminal harassment.

However, crimes against people went up in June by 7.5 per cent compared to the same month in 2025.

Officers in Windsor and Amherstburg took 272 personal crime reports in May, and so far in 2026, there were 1,445.

The upward trend in other Criminal Code violations finally stopped in June. They were down 2.9 per cent from June 2025. These include offences involving non-violent weapons, betting and gaming, administration of justice violations, and child sexual abuse material.

However, such reports were up in 2026 to date by 16.2 per cent.

For June's ward-by-ward breakdown in Windsor. Ward 1 still had the lowest amount of personal crime complaints, and Ward 7 recorded the fewest property crime incidents. Ward 3, which includes downtown, remained the highest in both.
