Beachgoers have been asked to avoid one Windsor-Essex location due to unsafe bacteria levels in the water.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit conducted its weekly beach testing on Wednesday and found that Holiday Beach in Amherstburg registered high levels of E. coli.
The latest results, released on Friday, showed E. coli levels hitting 1,000 at Holiday Beach. This means that the beach is completely closed.
Higher levels of bacteria may increase the risk of intestinal illness, infection, or skin problems for swimmers.
Another beach, Colchester Beach in Essex, is under a "code yellow" with an E. coli reading of 246, meaning that swimming is not recommended. The Beach itself and other amenities are open.
All other public beaches in Windsor-Essex, with the exception of the closed Sandpoint Beach, tested below safe bacterial thresholds and are fully open.
