A 30-year-old man has been arrested after Windsor police uncovered a firearm during a traffic stop.
Officers responded to a request to check on a driver's well-being on Walker Road near Cabana Road East at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
When they arrived, they found the driver slumped over the centre console. Open containers of alcohol, along with items consistent with drug use, were also found.
The officers woke the man, saw that he allegedly exhibited signs of impairment, and arrested him. While searching the vehicle further, they confiscated a loaded semi-automatic handgun, magazines, and ammunition.
The LaSalle resident is charged with impaired driving, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and occupying a vehicle while knowing of a firearm's presence.
He was also ticketed for driving with an open container of alcohol.
The charges have not been proven in court.
