The first person to file to run in October's Windsor municipal election in Ward 1 is Darcie Renaud.
Renaud is no novice when it comes to running for city council. She ran in the 2022 municipal election too, where she lost to Fred Francis in Ward 1.
"I've spent the last four years paying close attention to what's happening at City Hall," she said. "More than anything, the last four years have shown me that the best decisions happen when we listen, ask thoughtful and sometimes tough questions, consider the evidence and the data, and keep the people we serve at the centre of every decision. That's the approach I'll bring to City Council."
Since her previous campaign, Renaud has been actively engaged in municipal affairs. She's worked with Councillor Kieran McKenzie to help residents better understand the city budget, advocated for responsible fiscal management and greater accountability, and championed more affordable and reliable public transit for high school students.
"Whether we're talking about flooding, transit, budgets or growth, I think the questions should always be the same," Renaud said. "Are we making the best decision we can? Have we looked at all the options? Are we getting good value for the people we serve? Those are the questions I'll keep asking at City Hall."
Renaud plans to spend the coming months before the municipal vote canvassing residents in Ward 1 and talking with them about their ideas and how Windsor can work better for residents.
Current Ward 1 Councillor Fred Francis has not stated whether he intends to run for re-election.
