With just over a week to go before candidates in this fall's municipal elections have to file their nomination papers, five candidates are running for Mayor in Windsor.
In addition to Ward 1 City Councillor Fred Francis declaring his candidacy for Mayor, Benjamin Danyluk, Kat Pasquatch, Tara Greyer, and Patrick Sutherland have filed their nomination papers.
Windsor's current mayor, Drew Dilkens, has not yet indicated if he'll run for another term.
So far, 28 people have filed to run for a seat on Windsor city council, but that number could also expand before next Friday's deadline at 2 p.m.
In Ward 1, Darcie Renaud is the lone candidate.
Ward 2 has three candidates so far, including incumbent Frazier Fathers, who was elected last fall when his predecessor Fabio Costante left municipal politics to be the executive director of the Windsor Essex Housing Corporation. Also running in that ward are Anthony Jabbar and Nick Markham.
Renaldo Agostino, the incumbent in Ward 3, plans to run for re-election. He has one competitor so far for the seat, Rabia Kirma.
Former Ward 4 City Councillor Chris Holt plans to run for his old seat this October. He's running against Rasha Zaid.
So far, the incumbent in Ward 5, Ed Sleiman, hasn't announced whether he'll run for re-election or not, but if he does, he already faces four candidates in that ward: Ken Acton, Alessandro Didone, Natasha Elizabeth Feghali, and Shane Potvin.
In Ward 6, Nick Jirgen, Hiral Munim, Jeremy Renaud, and Owen Smith have filed papers to run for the seat.
There are two candidates in Ward 7, incumbent Angelo Marignani and Victoria Soluade.
Gary Kaschak, the current city councillor in Ward 8, plans to run again. He'll run against Kevin Racine.
Kieran McKenzie doesn't have any competition so far in Ward 9. The incumbent says he'll run for re-election. While in Ward 10, Jim Morrison will campaign for his seat again against Adam Ibrahim.
The deadline to file nomination papers to run in Windsor's municipal election on October 26 is 2 p.m. Friday, August 21.
