Trevor Jones, the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Chatham-Kent-Leamington, has been given a new ministerial role.
Premier Doug Ford announced changes to his cabinet on Thursday, which included having Jones become the new Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
He replaces David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, who is under investigation by the Ontario Integrity Commissioner for allegedly mishandling public funds.
Jones previously spent the last year and a half serving as Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness.
He was not available to speak about his new role, though Ford explained that the changes were made to put the province in the best position during the trade war with the U.S.
“President Trump is once again taking aim at Ontario’s economy with his latest round of tariffs and anti-trade measures. Ontario won’t back down. We’re preparing for the long haul, and that means putting the right team in place to protect Ontario workers and jobs today while building the most competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy in the G7 that can withstand whatever challenges come our way," said Ford.
Jones has been the riding's MPP since 2022, getting elected for a second time in last year's provincial election.
He's held several positions during his political career, including Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Deputy Government House Leader, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, and Associate Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response.
Replacing Jones as Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness is Sam Oosterhoff, the MPP for Niagara West.
