Crime figures for Windsor and Amherstburg continued in the right direction this summer.
The Windsor Police Service released its August crime statistics Wednesday evening, and they show continued drops in both property and personal crime.
In the two communities where Windsor police act as lead law enforcement, crimes against people dropped by 7.6 per cent from August 2025.
Year to date, personal crime reports dropped 6.6 per cent, compared with the period between January and August 2025.
Police say fewer robberies and assaults marked that decline. Assault reports were down by 13.2 per cent, while robbery reports dropped by 54.5 per cent.
Personal crime covers homicide, robbery, assault, abduction or forcible confinement, sexual assault, threats, and harassment.
The news was similarly good in the property crime department.
In Windsor and Amherstburg, property crime was down by double digits, ten per cent year-to-date, compared to last August.
Year-to-date, police reported a 6.7 per cent decline in property crime complaints from the same period last year.
Crimes against property include arson, fraud, break-and-enter, theft, and mischief.
For Criminal Code violations that did not fall under these two categories, reports were down 1.3 per cent compared to August 2025. However, for all of 2026 so far, those other offences were up by 12.2 per cent.
These include non-violent weapons infractions, betting and gaming, administration of justice violations, and child sexual abuse material.
With the ward-by-ward crime breakdown, Ward 1 showed the fewest reports of personal crime. For property crime, Ward 7 had the lowest number of offences.
Ward 3, which includes downtown, was still the highest in both categories.
