Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say an e-bike rider has been cited following a traffic stop on Saturday morning.
Police say officers were patrolling a residential area of Tecumseh shortly before 8 a.m. when they spotted an e-bike being ridden in a community safety zone on Centennial Road, well over the posted 40-kilometre-per-hour speed limit.
They tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the rider would not stop. Police eventually located the e-bike and rider and issued several citations.
The 34-year-old man from Essex has been charged with speeding in a community safety zone, failure to stop for police, and driving a motor vehicle without plates.
The OPP is using this stop to remind e-bike users that if the bike travels over the maximum speed of 32 kilometres per hour, it is considered a motor vehicle and must have licence plates and be insured.
