CK senior scammed using bitcoin

Chatham-Kent (CK) police are urging the public to be extra careful about who they send money to.

The warning comes after a 70-year-old woman was scammed out of more than $1,000.

The woman was contacted on Instagram by a man who claimed he had just finished a military contract and needed financial help.

After being told he would repay her with even more money, the woman agreed to send him the money in bitcoin.

She later lost contact with the man and discovered that all the information he had provided was fake.

CK police say this is an isolated case, but they're reminding the public to be extra cautious of potential scammers.
