Residents in a southern Ontario city and town hard hit by major flooding from back to back severe storms are getting a leg up from Bruce Power.
The nuclear generating facility is providing $100,000 worth of supplies and equipment to St. Catharines and the Town of Lincoln. It comes after the Niagara region received about a quarter of the area's typical annual rainfall over three days: July 27, 28, and August 2. The unprecedented wet weather caused widespread flooding and property damage, leading St. Catharines and Lincoln to both declare a state of emergency.
To help with the recovery effort, Bruce Power has sent small generators, construction-grade and heavy-duty garbage bags, cleaning supplies, mops, brooms, disinfectants, mold-removal products, paper products, laundry detergent, baby diapers, personal hygiene items, fans, and dehumidifiers.
“By leveraging our strong supplier relationships and procurement capabilities, we were able to quickly secure and coordinate the delivery of critical recovery supplies to Niagara Region," said Jeff Holland, the director of supply chain at Bruce Power.
Local officials and emergency management teams are working with Bruce Power to ensure the supplies go where they are most needed.
