The Sarnia Police Service says its Seasonal RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign will begin this week and continue into January 2026.
As part of the safety initiative, officers will conduct spot checks, mobile stops, and increased use of mandatory alcohol screening during this year's campaign.
During last year's campaign, city police inspected 300 vehicles, administered 79 roadside tests, issued six warn-range driver's licence suspensions, and charged five people with impaired driving.
The SPS said impaired driving by alcohol and drugs remains the leading contributor of vehicular deaths and injuries in Canada.
Getting caught behind the wheel while impaired could result in steep fines, charges, and driving prohibitions.
Police are asking residents to plan ahead during this holiday season and arrange for a designated driver or utilize a transportation service if consuming alcohol or drugs.
West Region OPP kicked off its Festive RIDE campaign on November 20.
During the first week, OPP across 13 detachments issued 53 impaired driving charges and eight warn-range suspensions. In Lambton County, OPP issued four impaired driving charges.
