The Sarnia Sting's Jack Van Volsen scored his eighth goal of the season to send the teddy bears flying Sunday afternoon at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Van Volsen hit the back of the net just as the third period got underway.
"It felt great," said Van Volsen. "It kind of got scary after two periods but we figured we were going to score one and happy to give you guys the chance to throw the bears over."
Jimmy Lombardi and Ryland Cunningham both scored for the Flint Firebirds, giving them a 2-1 lead in third.
The Sting's Beckham Edwards scored his 10th goal of the season to tie it up at 2-2 in the last five minutes sending the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the Sting were victorious in the shootout 3-2, with goals from both Jack Van Volsen and Allessandro Di Iorio.
Sting goalie Patrick Quinlan made 25 regulation saves in net in the win, snapping Sarnia's six game losing skid.
"It's huge, our own streak and to break their streak is big for us and I think it can start to build on you when those losses start to pile up," said Quinlan. "To get that one out of the way is huge and hopefully now we go on a northern swing here and get two or three wins and start getting back up there in the standings."
A total of 4,375 stuffed toys were collected Sunday to be distributed to area charities.
Since launching nearly 30 years ago, the annual Teddy Bear Toss game has collected over 80,000 stuffed toys for local children ahead of the holiday season.
