Residents may notice emergency response vessels on the upper St. Clair River and lower Lake Huron as search and rescue marine training is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
Volunteers with the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (PointSAR Marine Rescue Unit) will train with members of the Canadian Coast Guard Inshore Rescue Boat crew and OPP Marine Unit.
The training will involve a series of realistic scenarios meant to strengthen interoperability, communications, and coordinated emergency response.
During the training exercise, members of the public are being reminded there's no cause for concern.
A media release from PointSAR Marine Rescue said it's essential for rescue agencies to regularly train together under realistic conditions.
"Training alongside our federal and provincial partners is essential to maintaining a high level of operational readiness," said PointSAR Marine Rescue Unit Leader Greg Grimes. "Every search and rescue response relies on teamwork, clear communications, and coordination with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. Exercises like this allow us to strengthen those relationships before an actual emergency occurs."
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre coordinates marine and aeronautical search and rescue operations across the Great Lakes region, stated a media release.
PointSAR Marine Rescue provides marine search and rescue services on the Canadian side of the St. Clair River and southern Lake Huron.
