The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) is warning the public about the dangers of unlawfully entering high-voltage electrical facilities in the city.
Police said there have been several recent incidents where suspects have stolen or attempted to steal copper wire and electrical cables.
This includes one that happened at around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in the College Park neighbourhood.
Police didn't find the suspect but said there was a hole in the perimeter fence. Officers found a red bike on the property, believed to be connected to the suspect, and also provided a still image of the accused.
Police said electrical facilities contain energized equipment and high-voltage conductors, where contact with live electrical components can result in serious injury or death.
Cutting, damaging, or interfering with electrical cables can also create powerful electrical arcs that reach extremely high temperatures, causing catastrophic, life-altering, or fatal injuries.
Police said the theft or damage of electrical infrastructure can result in power outages that affect homes, businesses, and essential services within the community.
