Lakeshore shuts down Stoney Point Library Branch

Air quality issues have once again shut down the Stoney Point Library Branch.

The Municipality of Lakeshore is investigating after visitors and staff complained of eye and throat irritation.

The library is located in a mobile unit, and it's not the first time air quality has been an issue at the branch. Lakeshore closed the library last year.

An investigation at that time suggested the problem was with the HVAC system. That was fixed in January, but the problem has returned with the warm weather.

"To support further investigation and to rule out all possible contributors to the air quality issues, Lakeshore has requested the removal of all library materials and shelving from the space," said a release. "Municipal staff are also working with the unit's manufacturer and supplier to determine potential causes and identify solutions."

"While investigations are ongoing, we are also seeking short- and long-term options, such as another mobile unit, to ensure the continuation of library services in Stoney Point/Pointe-aux-Roches," said Corporate Leader of Community Health and Safety Services Frank Jeney. "We know how important this facility is to residents in the area, and we appreciate their patience as we seek a fix."
