Trustees with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board acclaimed their chair and vice-chair at their meeting on Tuesday night.
Lisa Souilliere will stay on as chair for another one-year term, while Jason Lazarus will remain vice-chair.
The two were acclaimed in Tuesday night's vote by trustees after no other members expressed interest in taking over those positions.
"We appear to start this final year as endangered stewards of publicly-funded education in the Province of Ontario," said Souilliere. "As the province appears poised to move education forward without us, we must continue to focus on our students and their success."
Souilliere was referring to Bill 33, "The Supporting Children and Students Act," which will allow the Education Minister to appoint school board supervisors, effectively eliminating boards of trustees.
The bill is up for a final vote on Wednesday at Queen's Park, and Education Minister Paul Calandra has said he'll have a plan to replace trustees by the end of the year.
Souilliere has been a trustee on the board since 2000 and served previously as vice-chair from 2018 to 2022. She represents schools in the Area 3-Lakeshore ward.
Lazarus is a first-term trustee elected in 2022, who represents Windsor Wards 5 and 8.
