Crime in Windsor continues a subtle drop in February

Windsor police say crime in the city and in Amherstburg is still trending in the right direction.

The crime statistics for February were released on social media on Wednesday, showing a gentle decline that has been ongoing throughout 2026.

Property crime was down by 2.1 per cent in February compared to the same month a year prior.

There were 641 property complaints last month. Offences include arson, fraud, theft, mischief, break-and-enter, and possession of stolen property.

Bucking that trend were slight increases in reports of fraud, theft, and mischief.

Reports of crime against people were also down in February. There were 183 complaints for a 2.1 per cent decline from February 2025. So far this year, there have been 1.5 per cent fewer reports.

Personal crimes include homicide, assault, sexual assault, robbery, and forcible confinement.

Windsor's first homicide of 2026 put that offence ahead of last year. There were also increases in sexual crimes, as well as in threats or harassment.

Criminal Code offences not covered by the other two categories increased in February by 13.1 per cent compared to 2025. Year-to-date, complaints rose by 8.7 per cent.

Crimes under this category include child sexual abuse and exploitation material, gambling and betting offences, non-violent weapons complaints, and administration of justice violations.

There was little change in the ward-by-ward breakdown for the city of Windsor only. Ward 3, which includes downtown, experienced the highest number of property and personal crimes.

Ward 1 had the lowest number of personal crime reports, and it was neck-and-neck with Ward 7 for the lowest property crime rate.
