Amherstburg Fire Department responds to morning blaze

Amherstburg fire crews responded to a fire on Kingsbridge Drive early Tuesday morning.

Amherstburg Fire Chief Michael Mio said there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the fire when crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but its believed to have started in the kitchen. It's estimated the blaze caused $150,000 in damages.

Four people from the home were taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation.

One firefighter also sustained minor injuries when responding to the call.

Chief Mio credited working smoke alarms for providing early warning and allowing the residents to exit the home safely.
