Breakaway accounts launching for this spring's bridge opening

Breakaway personal accounts have been made available for all travellers preparing to use the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) and Bridging North America (BNA) launched the initiative to give individuals and families a discount on tolls when the new crossing opens this spring.

"Passenger vehicle travellers can save time and money on each trip across the Gordie Howe International Bridge by registering for a Breakaway personal account," said Chuck Andary, interim chief executive officer and chief legal officer of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority.

Registered members will receive a 25 per cent discount, paying only $6 CAD ($4.35 USD) per crossing, while the standard toll is $8 CAD ($5.75 USD).

"We are validating the systems and operations that will support opening day," said David Henderson, Chief Executive Officer of Bridging North America. "Launching Breakaway personal accounts is part of that preparation, helping ensure both the infrastructure and its users are ready for a successful first crossing."

Travellers interested in the Breakaway program can sign up on the Gordie Howe International Bridge's official website.
