Labour community and City of Windsor honour Gary Parent

A commemorative seating area will be unveiled in Reaume Park this spring in honour of Gary Parent.

Parent was the former president of the Windsor and District Labour Council and was known for his commitment to the community.

He fought for the environment, health and safety, and poverty prevention.

"There will be a plaque. It's going to entail a description of Gary Parent work within the labour movement, his commitment to the labour movement. It's going to talk about his family, his commitment to family, and how you extend that to be a good citizen in the City of Windsor," said Ken Lewenza, former Unifor National president and former Local 444 president.

The labour community raised $160,000 to purchase the benches. They worked with the City of Windsor on the location and installation.

"The process of constructing it is well underway, there's been a team effort for the last six or seven months, and now we're seeing the fruits of our combined labour becoming a reality," said Lewenza.

The seating area will be officially unveiled on May 1, 2026.
