Man charged in theft of still-missing excavator

Windsor police say a man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a $30,000 mini-excavator.

Members of the Target Base Unit began an investigation in late March, after the equipment was stolen from a business on Rhodes Drive. The suspect was seen on video loading the excavator onto a trailer attached to his pickup truck, then driving away.

In April, members of the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit located a 37-year-old man on Tuscarora Avenue near Langlois Street and took him into custody.

The mini-excavator is still missing.

Anyone with information on this theft or on the whereabouts of the excavator should call the Windsor police's Target Base Unit at (519) 255-6700, extension 4350. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
