Water service in Wheatley is back to normal after several water main breaks.
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (PUC) says the breaks occurred on Saturday, April 25, but all issues have been repaired, and the water distribution system is operating normally.
A press release said that because the breaks happened while the Wheatley water tower is temporarily out of service for rehabilitation work, the water system is operating differently to keep water flowing and pressure steady. An issue with one of the system components that helps control water pressure led to higher-than-normal pressure in parts of the system, which led to the breaks.
Municipal crews responded quickly, repaired the affected water mains, confirmed that the system is stable, and that there is no ongoing risk to the community's water supply.
The Chatham-Kent PUC thanks the Wheatley residents for their patience and understanding.
