The City of Windsor is preparing for its annual Point-in-Time count, which measures the number of people experiencing homelessness.
The count is a national initiative aimed at measuring the rate of homelessness and housing insecurity in communities across the country.
Volunteers will work with a team of experienced staff from the homelessness sector to conduct the survey.
They need to be able to engage respectfully with those experiencing homelessness in public spaces, uphold the dignity and confidentiality of those who answer questions, be at least 18, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Volunteers need to be capable of walking up to four kilometres during a shift, complete a Vulnerable Sector Check, and follow all health, safety and conduct protocols.
Previous outreach or social services experience is considered an asset, but is not required.
All volunteers will receive training before the count and will be supported by staff, under the direction of the City of Windsor.
Those chosen to conduct the survey will not be paid.
The deadline to apply is September 18, and the Point in Time count will be conducted on October 20, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
