A 46-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been arrested and charged with arson and committing an indecent act following a fire and a disturbing incident in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said witnesses reported seeing a man defecating on the patio at an apartment unit on Churchill Parkway in Chatham on Wednesday morning just before 9 a.m.
"Officers arrived to find a ground-floor unit with a shattered patio door and evidence of a fire believed to have originated from patio furniture," police said.
Police noted they identified the suspect through surveillance videos obtained from the area.
According to police, the fire was already out when firefighters arrived, and no alarms were activated.
The accused is being held for a bail hearing.
